Though it was the second day in my new job it was really like my first as my first was an all day mandatory training day.
My new boss, old friend and colleague, T, showed me round the department formally and itroduced me to the peopele I would meet in every day life. I have written their names and roles down but doubt I will remember today.
We talked about what I was to be doing over the next month or two and expectations. In a nutshell I will be working as part of a team of three. The other one is V. who I met last month for the first time. One of us is permanently based at the local general hospital and one at the local city hspital. I will be working in between sites.
I am responsible for training people over both sites, about 40 wards and units, on certain pumps and entonox (laughing gas) and also will see patients regularly depending where I am about pain. Also will be doing little training sessions and supporting link nurse days.
All in all I will be pretty busy but i think fulfilled. I worry about remebering names now
Eventually both hospitals will merge and we all will be working on one site. This will be in the next few years. I don't think any jobs will be at risk.
We saw some patients yesterday and this was very strange as I didn't have to be tuned in to what was going on around me in the same way as I used to, which meant I could concentrate fully on what the person were saying. I won't have a responsibility forpatients yet but after my induction period I will.
Also got my uniforms. The trousers, it has to be said, are HUGE. This is due to the unfortunate issue of a big bum but normal shape legs. Luckily I will be able to use the old trousers from my previous job which are ok if not a bit worn.
So third day today and I will be shadowing T. all day. Looking forward to this as I will be wearing my uniform and won't feel so out of place.
