Been away for a week and what a difference. We all really neeeded the break. Mid Wales I reckon is a bit of a secret. We went to 3 main tourist attractions and they were not packed. The weather was drizzly but ok on those days, we didn't watch the weather forcasts too much.
We stayed in a fantastic cottage that sits right by a steam railway. The place itself used to be a water mill. It had the main house and attached the buildings for the mill as well as some outbuildings. Whta delight. The mill was actually in place theough is disrepair. All the weels and gridnstones, the waterwheel and grain shoots plus all sorts of other stuff. The channel that the water passed through is present but shut off from the river but htere was plenty of water to get it going again. The roof had been replaced recently at some point so it is all protected from the weather.
The steam railway ran 3 or 4 times a day with real live big steam trains going between small village of Llanfair Caerenion and Welshpool. We wave at it whenever it passed
http://www.wllr.org.uk/ We were place about a mile from the Llanfair end and so we went by train into Welshpool one of the days.
We also had a lovely day at Chirk castle: http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-chirkcastle . It is a lovely property and I could imagine living in it ( I wish) The curent owners do live in it which I find quite pleasing.
Another day we went to the Centre for Alternative Technology: http://www.cat.org.uk/index.tmpl?refer=index&init=1 There were lots of activities for littl'un and and things to do and see for us grown ups too. I had a chance meetup with an old friend too which made the day complete.
Finally a day on the lake of Bala and Vynwry. http://www.walesdirectory.co.uk/tourist-attractions/Lakes_and_Reservoirs/Wales7572.htm Both places were lovely and though the weather was a bit wet it didn't matter. Lake Vyrnwy was had a lovely picnic site and an RSPB reserve. http://www.walesdirectory.co.uk/Lakes/Lake_Vyrnwy.htm
On top of this I had a few rest days as going on holiday with 7 other people can be a bit frught and I needed some space. I got a load of business stuff done, mostly to do with spreasheets and read three books.
Now I am back the reality fo the wah pile kicks in and I am on my 3rd load already today. Luckily the sun is shining so most of it may be dry by tonight.
